Past my knowing…

But I, I will always hope and keep adding to Your praise. All day long my mouth will tell of Your righteous deeds and acts of salvation, though their number is past my knowing.          Psalm 71:14-15 CJB

The phrase “though their number is past my knowing…” gave me pause to reflect these last few days of 2021. I can’t even wrap my mind and heart fully around a small room of people—I struggle just in trying to love my immediate family “well” at times! But God wraps His great arms around the entire world (from all of time!) and loves them with an extravagant, prodigal Love that I can’t even conceive of. His goodness in the life of our family alone is worthy of praise. Multiply that by the 7.9 billion lives that He’s currently pouring His common grace upon (and the billions more from generations past!) and truly, we could spend all day with the psalmist telling of God’s “righteous deeds and acts of salvation”.

How have you personally seen the grace of God show up in your life this past year? How have you observed it in the lives of those around you? If at times you struggle to see it, just think of all that is going on beyond what you are able to see and praise Him, in faith, for that! As we read before our family’s Thanksgiving meal this year: “Offer thanksgiving as your sacrifice to God…” Psalm 50:14 (go read the verses preceding this one, too—they’re really powerful!).

May you and yours have eyes to see the many blessings that have been lavishly poured over your lives this past year and look ahead with eagerness to the many blessings that await you in the coming one.
