“The land must never be sold on a permanent basis, for the land belongs to me. You are only foreigners and tenant farmers working for me. With every purchase of land you must grant the seller the right to buy it back.”
Leviticus 25:23-24 NLT
As believers, we belong to the Lord. Though we may be living in this world and even “sell ourselves” out to it at times, we have been redeemed and the Lord will ultimately come and claim us for His own: “If a stranger or sojourner with you becomes rich, and your brother beside him becomes poor and sells himself to the stranger or sojourner with you or to a member of the stranger’s clan, then after he is sold he may be redeemed. One of his brothers may redeem him…” Leviticus 25:47-48 ESV
“For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers…” Hebrews 2:11 ESV
Through Jesus, the rights to the Promised Land are ours as well: “The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.” Ephesians 1:14 NLT
Oh, that the year of Jubilee, when the land that has been sold reverts to the original owner, would hasten on its way! “The one who is testifying to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon!’ Amen! Come, Lord Yeshua!” Revelation 22:20 CJB.
